Miyachi Unitek Corp., Monrovia, Calif., has designed its new LF fiber laser welding systems especially for fine micro welding. The LF handles focused spot sizes down to 10 microns and offers precise control of pulse width and peak power. The laser is available in either single mode or multi-mode options. Typical applications include welding of flexure arms on hard disc drives, medical spring attachment, and medical component assembly.

"The LF laser specification is based upon Miyachi Unitek’s long experience with the demands of welding small components and provides a perfect complement to our wide range of pulsed Nd:YAG lasers," said Dr. Geoff Shannon, Miyachi Unitek’s laser technology manager. "Our range of both fiber and pulsed Nd:YAG fine welders gives customers access to the best technology for each specific applications."

The LF laser features an internal air to water cooling mechanism, which ensures excellent power and pulse to pulse stability, irrespective of the ambient air temperature. It can be operated in either pulsed or continuous wave mode and offers all the features necessary for control of the weld, including pulse shaping. The control interface can be integrated into the laser or provided separately for workstation integration. The LF laser can be integrated to any motion platform, including both stage and gantry systems, as well as scan heads.
