Olofstrom, Sweden – The Volvo Car Corporation here will install a pilot plant laser station supplied by Permanova Lasersystems AB, Molndal, Sweden. Volvo has continued to invest in laser-based production technology for its future car models and now is investing in a system for hang-on parts to car bodies.
Permanova will deliver the pilot plant station for laser processes and preproduction, where, for example, processes for laser welding of aluminum car doors, laser brazing of closures, etc, can be further developed.
Permanova integrates laser, robot, process tool and wire feeder while the interfaces (the Permanova standard box for tool interfacing) are open, which facilitates processing for future components. The customer is completely free to grow and develop further with this station.
"Volvo Car Corporation were pioneers within the car industry with their investment in car roof welding, in the main body factory production flow, about 20 years ago. They have continued very proactively with laser investments in Sweden, Belgium, and of course in China during the last years," says Mr. Ulf Sandstrom, managing director at Permanova. "This Pilot Plant station is another proof of the investments for the future.”
Permanova Lasersystem AB is a Swedish integrator of robotized laser systems for metal processing, mainly for welding, 3D cutting, brazing, cladding, and marking with lasers.
