To prevent thermal damage to the filter glass of eyewear, PROTECT-Laserschutz GmbH, Nürnberg, Germany, offers laser safety eyewear with dielectric coatings. Multi-layer coatings reflects the laser energy nearly totally or reduces the energy to enter the filter glass and cause damage. Equipped with multi-layer coatings, the laser safety eyewear reaches highest protection levels, according to standard EN 207 (state of the art).

Laser safety eyewear for use within European countries have to provide not only the necessary optical density, but also a time frame of 5 seconds to withstand the laser radiation with the maximum power-/energy (MPE) densities. According to EN 207 (latest version) for laser safety eyewear, no harmful transmission above the MPE is allowed to reach the user's eyes.

Combining the multi-layer coating with absorbing glass broadband protection areas can be realized. These laser safety eyewear can be used for all solid state-, disc- and fiber lasers within the tested and certified wavelength area. Also available are filters with protection for harmonic lasers in the and the UV and additional protection against the pump laser beams.

These eyewear can be delivered in the well-known frame styles RETRO, OVERSPEC, and GLADIATOR. All eyewear carry the CE sign.
