Borroughs acquires fiber laser cutter

July 16, 2013
Borroughs has purchased a 4000 W Amada fiber laser to increase production capacity.

Kalamazoo, MI - Borroughs Corp., an industrial storage solutions provider, recently purchased a fiber laser from Amada to increase production capacity and lower operating costs.

This fiber laser system is designed to deliver optimum performance, enabling high-quality laser cutting. The 4000 W laser output paired with linear axes speed of up to 240 meters per minute will enable the company to obtain a higher cutting speed and superior cut quality and flexibility. This is projected to lower operating costs and lower carbon emissions up to 70 percent.

"The addition of the new Amada fiber laser will allow us to produce parts we were unable to make with our current turret presses, by utilizing the advanced part geometry capabilities of the laser. The new laser also reduces set up times and tooling maintenance over our current turrets and will help reduce our machine capacity constraints significantly,” said Kai Stankey, MRP/throughput manager at Borroughs.

The company will begin to utilize the machine for production in the upcoming weeks. The new laser will allow the storage solutions provider to successfully meet industry challenges and signifies the company’s continuous efforts to improve their manufacturing and be poised to take advantage of future opportunities.
