Napoleon, OH - LaserCoil Technologies LLC, a company that provides metal fabricating systems and solutions featuring advanced and patented technologies for laser cutting of blanks, has received its first order for a LaserCoil blanking system from toll processor Precision Strip Inc. (Minster, OH), for installation at its Perrysburg, OH, location where that company currently provides slitting and cut-to-length services.

The state-of-the-art coil fed laser blanking line will combine LaserCoil’s laser blanking technology along with terminal and ancillary equipment supplied by Precision Strip, which offers a diverse range of toll processing services including slitting, cut-to-length, shape blanking, oscillate slitting, and inspection. The new laser blanking line is expected to be running production in the second quarter of 2014.

"The LaserCoil system offers us the flexibility and quick changeover that is crucial to toll processors handling a variety of orders," said Precision Strip president, Joe Wolf. "And, LaserCoil’s approach to cutting of continuous coil is the first we’ve seen that delivers both the productivity and quality we are looking for in laser blanking technology."

LaserCoil systems can process a wide variety of coil material in aluminum, mild steel, the new high-strength steels, and other materials for surface sensitive panels as well as structural components in thicknesses from 0.5 to 3.5 mm and up to 2 m wide coil at any length. Depending upon part complexity and size, the systems can attain high production speeds. Scrap is automatically shed during the laser cutting process to deliver stack-ready parts with near-zero dross and edges ready for laser welding.

LaserCoil Technologies announced its new approach for high speed, coil-fed laser blanking on Oct 17.
