Spectra-Physics announces the handheld 1-W UV diode-pumped laser: the Explorer XP 355-1.

Santa Clara, CA - Spectra-Physics, a Newport Corp. brand, has announced the Explorer XP 355-1, a handheld 1-W ultraviolet Q-switched diode-pumped solid-state laser. With the proprietary "It's in the Box" design, which combines the electronics and laser head into a single lightweight package, it is rugged and easily integrates into machine tools and moving gantries.

It features an 8-ns pulse width, good beam quality and <2% pulse-to-pulse stability for high-quality processing, making it suitable for additive manufacturing, medical device manufacturing, UV marking, and other precision UV micromachining applications.

The laser delivers >1-W output power at a 50-kHz repetition rate for high process reproducibility and yields. Based on the Explorer platform and Spectra-Physics' patented architecture, it is tested to endure bare product shock and vibration with accelerations of up to 100 g.
