Precision Laser Scanning (Scottsdale, AZ) has introduced a custom continuous-wave laser diode module for start-of-scan (SOS) trigger in high-power and ultrafast polygon scan heads. The Precision SOS laser diode module has a 0.7mm spot, eliminating the need for manual focusing or external focusing optics. The module's 8mm diameter and 30mm length allow integration into a compact polygon scan head, and the module is typically used out of plane from the working beam to avoid interference. By using a red SOS laser when the working beam is infrared, green, or ultraviolet, it is possible to filter out interference from the bright working beam. Also, the module does not require a laser diode power supply, as it runs off a regulated 5 VDC supply and lifetime is over 10,000 hours.
