ASTM International (West Conshohocken, PA) has hired a technical consultant in additive manufacturing to support standards development and related needs in this emerging and fast-growing field. Mohsen Seifi, Ph.D., a postdoctoral research associate at Case Western Reserve University (Cleveland, OH), will serve as director of additive manufacturing programs.
This action meets a need for in-house expertise at ASTM International at a time when technologies in the additive manufacturing field are rapidly evolving, thus requiring nimble and accelerated approaches to the creation of new standards and related products, programs, and services.
Seifi is a globally recognized expert in process-structure-property relationships for metal additive manufacturing. As director, he will track key additive manufacturing trends, drivers, and innovations while also building relationships with ASTM members, external networks, and professional organizations.
Seifi will play a key role in liaising with ASTM International's Committee on Additive Manufacturing Technologies (F42), launched in 2009, as well as other committees interested in additive manufacturing. In addition, he will provide input and guidance to ASTM's Smart Manufacturing Advisory Committee, a broad group of experts that collaborate on standards development across several cutting-edge areas.
In addition, Seifi will build on the success of existing ASTM International partnerships such as the Partner Standards Development Organization agreement with the International Standardization Organization (ISO), which celebrates its fifth anniversary this month. He will also work to maximize the potential of ASTM's memoranda of understanding with innovation hub America Makes (Youngstown, OH) and the 3MF Consortium while exploring future partnerships with industries, academia, and other organizations.
