German research institute to exhibit at SPIE Photonics West 2016

Jan. 29, 2016
The PZKL's goal is transferring optical technologies from research to industry, which they will showcase at SPIE Photonics West 2016.

The Photonic Center K-Town (Photonik-Zentrum Kaiserslautern-PZKL; Kaiserslautern, Germany) a non-profit research institute, was founded in 2009 with the goal of transferring optical technologies from research to industry, and with special emphasis on supporting small and medium enterprises. Among the areas for PZKL are optical measurement systems, laser development, and micromachining using ultrafast lasers, together with their application in industrial processes.

Some milestones of the work at the Photonics Center K-Town are:

  • A 193nm-range solid-state laser;
  • Ridge waveguides as tailored components for photonic applications; and
  • Ultrafast lasers with a dynamic, adaptable pulse repetition rate, allowing for synchronization with new resonant scanners with a marking speed of up to 1000m/s.

PZKL is exhibiting for the first time at SPIE Photonics West 2016 in the German Pavilion (North Hall D, booth 4629-32), showing work in ultrafast laser development, micromachining, and optical metrology.
