Laser cutting company invests $1.5M in two new laser machines

Laser cutting and sheet metal subcontractor Intec Laser Services will invest $1.5 million in two new state-of-the-art laser machines.

Redditch, Worcestershire, England - Laser cutting and sheet metal subcontractor Intec Laser Services will celebrate 35 years of trading later this year, and will mark this special occasion with a $1.5 million (£1 million) investment in two new state-of-the-art laser machines to meet increased demand from what seems to be an increasingly buoyant manufacturing sector.

In 1980, the family-owned company installed one of the country's first laser cutting machines to provide a cost-effective solution for producing and supplying precision cut profiles in both small and large batch quantities. Thirty-five years later, the firm has purchased a TRUMPF 5kW BrightLine fiber laser machine, giving them the ability to process materials up to 10mm thick at ultra-high cutting speeds while providing the power to cut up to 25mm-thick mild steel and 20mm-thick stainless steel.

In addition to the fiber laser, the company also installed a TRUMPF 7040 twin cab 5-axis laser cutting machine in February 2015 to replace their previous 5-axis machine. These machines are used to provide three-dimensional cutting of parts that have already been deep-drawn, formed, or manipulated.

"Our new split-cabin production cells enable a cost-effective and repeatable process, which is now becoming the industry standard for the production of body-in-white interior panels for the automotive industry, where high-strength, low-weight panels are required," says Darren Marson, Intec's general manager.
