Terhan, Iran - Researchers at the Iranian National Center for Laser Science and Technology have developed 600W fiber lasers for cutting steel up to 10mm thick.

Sheet metal cutting has applications in street signs, washing machines, satellites, cruise liners, and automotive and airplane welding. Laser cutting does not cause heat distortion, creating clean edges in holes and cut-outs of almost any shape and size. The process is easily automated, consistent, and repeatable. Compared to carbon dioxide lasers, fiber lasers offer excellent beam quality, smaller spot sizes, greater energy efficiency, lower maintenance costs, and a more compact footprint.
