FEMTOprint among finalists in additive manufacturing category of 2015 Prism Awards
San Francisco, CA - FEMTOprint SA was among the three finalists in the additive manufacturing category of the 2015 Prism Awards. The winner in this category, LUXeXcel, was announced in San Francisco on February 11th at a gala event held during the SPIE Photonics West 2015 exhibition.
The company's FEMTOPRINT technology is an innovative manufacturing process for the production of 3D microdevices integrating optical, fluidic, and mechanical features down to the nanoscale in a single substrate. No other technique can produce complex and challenging 3D microdevices in a single piece with nanometric resolution and outside of a cleanroom.
"Engineering photons to induce nonlinear effects, allowing the modification of transparent materials in three dimensions, is the key enabling science behind our technology," explains Dr. Andrea Lovera, FEMTOprint's CSO. "With no more than the energy of a bright LED delivered in ultra-short time, any transparent material can be modified in all dimensions, opening the field of complex 3D printing to a broad range of substrates, like, for example, fused silica, borofloat, some polymers, and even hard substrates like sapphire, ruby. Watch industry, biomed, life science, telecom, luxury, and research centers are some of the customers taking advantage of the technology."
