July 8--The Vulcan Steel Group, which includes Vulcan Steel Manufacturing, Services, and Plasma and now Vulcan Steel Laser, has built up a record of good quality, efficient service, and years of expertise in the steel industry in the Western Cape. The group started just over 10 years ago, selling large steel plates and coils to a small market in and around Cape Town, South Africa.
The company stocks and supplies steel sheets and plates of thicknesses from 0.5 mm to 200 mm and of many different qualities. It stocks a range of mild steel and quality graded steel such as 300WA, 50B, and 50D high strength, Lloyds shipping plates and roller quenched and tempered plastes, and abrasion-resistant plates. It is also the appointed Western Cape distributor of Domex ultra-high strength wear- and weather-resistant sheets and plates.
Many of these materials are required cut to the customer's exact size, which led the company to enter the flame cutting market. It now cuts plates for customers with its many computerized multiple-head flame cutting machines, stainless steel with a double-headed plasma machine, and now by laser.
Vulcan Steel Laser has recently installed a TRUMPF 4050 laser cutting machine to supplement the existing flame and plasma machines. The laser cuts up to 25mm-thick carbon steel and 20mm stainless steel at accuracies of +/-0.1mm at very fast speeds. It can process plates up to 4m x 2m in size.
