December 16--The Laser Institute now offers Laser Safety Officer (LSO) and Laser Safety Officer (LSO) with Hazard Analysis.

December 16--The Laser Institute of America (LIA) offers two types of training for laser safety officers: Laser Safety Officer (LSO) and Laser Safety Officer (LSO) with Hazard Analysis. Both courses are designed to teach the duties of a laser safety officer as described in the American National Standard (ANSI) Z136.1 for Safe Use of Lasers. Both courses will cover information on lasers an optics, bioeffects, beam and non-beam hazards, control measures, and training requirements.

Which course attended depends on the specific job responsibility--those performing laser hazard analysis calculations should attend LSO with Hazard Analysis. If a person is not required to perform laser hazard analysis calculations they should attend the LSO training.
