September 27--Two years after introducing the product, TRUMPF Inc.'s laser factory in Connecticut has manufactured more than 100 TCF 1 laser resonators. Reportedly, the product is the only commercially available diffusion-cooled CO2 laser with a coaxial arrangement of electrodes in the 2000-watt performance class.
According to the company, the TCF 1's high-quality beam, small size, light weight, and simplified installation requirements have opened up new application possibilities, particularly in demanding environments. Today TCF 1 lasers are integrated into the new TC 3000 L combination machine and TC L 2510 laser cutting machine, and are also sold for integration into assembly lines or mounting on robots.
The laser source meets market demands by offering the simplicity, sturdiness, and high-quality beam characteristics of smaller, low-wattage CO2 lasers, but at a much greater power level. The unit is capable of performing a variety of material processing tasks, including cutting, welding, scribing, and marking of metals, as well as less conventional applications in plastics, woods, fabrics, and ceramics.
The TCF 1 has won a gold-level prize as part of the Connecticut Quality Improvement Award program.
