Munich, Germany - Perhaps one of the most eye-catching displays at this year’s Laser 2007 will be a V2500 Rolls Royce aircraft turbine engine located in the Fraunhofer Institute for Laser Technology (ILT) exhibit in Hall B3 of the Messe Munich. This 4-meter-long, 2.5-metric-ton engine will be used to draw attention to the economic advantages of laser cladding.

Fraunhofer ILT (Aachen, Germany) now operates an OEM certified repair shop for engine components where it has succeeded in repairing complex components such as Blade Integrated Disks using laser cladding technology, which features its special coating nozzles and optimized powder feeder system.

More than 23,000 visitors from 85 countries are expected to view the products of over 1000 exhibitors at this 33,000m2 show that has been held biennially since 1973. In Hall B3, the location of industrial lasers and systems for production engineering, at least 280 exhibitors will show advanced products. Among the advanced technology products they will see are these from companies that responded to our request for exhibit information.

Lasag (www.lasag.com) will introduce diode-pumped short-pulse lasers for helical drilling, a solid-state tube cutter, and a solid-state laser capable of welding reflective metals. Laservall (www.laservall.com) will show a new DPSS laser marking source, a long-pulse DPSS laser, and a new OEM green laser. DPSS lasers from Ekspla (www.ekspla.com) feature industrial-grade Q-switched units, short-pulse Q-switched, and picosecond modelocked lasers. Compact 10- and 20-watt fiber laser marking systems from LAO Industrial Lasers System Ltd. (www.lao.cz), a Czech manufacturer, will be shown.

And Photon Energy GmbH (www. photon-energy.de) introduces a Q-switched 120W fiber laser with excellent beam quality for materials processing. An ultraviolet, femtosecond, DPSS laser for direct write and mask image micromachining is a new product from Soliton GmbH (www.soliton-gmbh.de). Alltec GmbH (www.alltec.org) will show a unique tool for calibration of laser marking systems that is said to accelerate the marking process while reducing costs and providing high marking accuracy. Beratron GmbH (www.beratron.de) offers power sources for diode lasers in both pulsed and CW configurations.

Unitek Eapro (www.unitekeapro.com) announces two new in-house developed fiber lasers for welding at 100 and 300 watts. Alpha Lasers GmbH (www.alphalaser.de) says its ALM 200 is the only really mobile pulsed laser welder. This 200W unit is said to be ideal for joining and deposit welding on molds and mechanical parts. Limo (www.limo.de) will show new beam shaping modules and process development tools for high-power direct diode welding. GSI Group, Laser Division (www.gsig.com) is launching a range of fiber lasers to complement its JK range of Nd:YAG cutting, welding, and drilling lasers. And ScanLab (www.scanlab.de) will introduce a new PC interface board that will give its OEM customers true competitive advantages in scanning technology. -DAB
