Enschede, The Netherlands—Omega Laser Systems B.V (www..omegalaser.com) and LasX Industries Inc. (www.lasxindustries.com—Minneapolis, MN) have joined forces in the field of remote welding, a process that stands out for its unequalled high displacement speeds between welds.

Maurice Bolwerk, senior project and sales engineer at Omega says, "Because of the special way of beam positioning we are now able to displace between welds at speeds up to 20 meters per second. That's 4000 feet per minute, which means you are welding almost continuously." Omega has been building laser welding and cutting systems for more than 14 years and has systems installed around the world, so they know whereof they speak.

And LasX has been using the same beam motion technology for years in cutting applications. Each company brings technology to the marriage, Omega with welding know-how and LasX with control knowledge.

The projected market for the ScanWeld remote welding systems will be in spot welding in the white goods, automotive, heat exchanger, and domestic appliances sectors.
