London, On—A licensing agreement signed by the NRC Integrated Manufacturing Technologies Institute (NRC-IMTI) and Capital Lasers Inc. (a London-based startup) transfers the laser precision manufacturing knowledge and expertise of NRC-IMTI to a commercial organization that, in the words of Joe Montana, Parliamentary Secretary to the Prime Minister, Science and Small Business, "...will reap benefits for the company, the manufacturing industry and Canada, contributing to this country's reputation for innovation."
NRC-IMTI conducts leading-edge research and development in key fields relevant to Canadian industry and works to spin off these scientific discoveries to private sector firms. Capital Laser will incubate innovative laser microprocessing technology at the NRC-IMTI facility located in London, Ontario. They plan to manufacture laser precision manufacturing systems for industry and institutions to use in-house and to provide a manufacturing service capability for a range of industrial applications in sectors from biomedical to automotive and electronics. They expect to create 50 jobs and realize $45 million in revenues in its first five years. "We are going to revolutionize the manufacturing industry though Laserfacturing," says Capital Lasers President Mr. Rahmer.
