Tamilnadu, India—Laserline Fabrication is a new laser process development center opened in the province of Chennai by long-time GSI Lumonics distributor, Optilase. Staffed by three engineers in a 110-square-meter facility, the new company will feature a five-axis motion system powered by a GSI Lumonics continuous-wave Nd:YAG laser.
Mr. R. Sabarikanth, who has 18 years of experience in supplying laser cutting, welding, and drilling equipment in India, reports that the process center has been working with the Welding Research Institute, Tiruchirapalli, on several projects. They include developing optics for welding and heat-treating long metal strips, welding automobile fuel injector rods, and welding capsules for the semiconductor industry. The center also is working with other partners on the use of lasers for surface treatment in the textile industry. Sabarikanth also acknowledges the support and cooperation the center received from GSI Lumonics in Rugby and the United States.
