Stuttgart, Germany—Innovative solutions in laser materials processing control are developing at plasmo, the German maker of quality control and diagnostics systems. Three new products, introduced at EuroBlech last year, offer users powerful tools to ensure that their process is optimized for success.

Process Observer is used to evaluate welding, cutting and drilling operations. Power Observer, the fastest known measuring device, is based on the innovative measuring principle of differential calorimeter. And Profile Observer is a fast seam geometry-measuring device based on laser triangulation principles.

Profile Observer is a very efficient tool for monitoring weld seam location, gap and mismatch. To improve on current triangulation processes, plasmo uses 3 to 4 laser lines projected in supposition to produce high intensity at the work piece for reliable detection even from highly reflective surfaces. These illumination lines are perpendicular to the surface so the detecting camera is located to the side with the optical axis of all components parallel and projected with mirrors to the point of investigation. Sampling at 4 kW or more, makes this unit the fastest detecting system on the market.

Profile Observer is excellent for applications in tailored blank welding, welding stainless steel tubes, gear welding and body-in-white welding. It is also useful in laser brazing applications
