Munich, Germany—You never know what you'll find when you wander out of the industrial laser hall at LASER 2003. We stumbled onto what we thought was a new supplier located in the laser component hall. Bettonville Industrial (Wijnegem, Belgium) is actually a well-known supplier of laser systems for diamond cutting, having shipped hundreds of these units to India.

Now the company is introducing a multi-axis system for other applications, based on what it has learned in diamond cutting.

The UltraShape 5xs utilizes an integrated optical module to control the spatial properties of the focused beam along any complex cutting path. This provides cuts with perfectly vertical walls and good surface quality, with shallow cut radii and sharp internal corners.

With a working area of 150 mm × 150 mm and Z motion of 170 mm, this unit offers large cutting depths, open or closed contours and unlimited numbers of bends or corners.

Check out this unit on the company's website, www.bettonvilleindsutrial.com

CORRECTION In the July issue of Industrial Laser Solutions, the Update item on fiber laser output power record, an omission implies that ytterbium fiber lasers are eye safe. Actually a sentence starting a new paragraph on erbium fiber lasers was omitted and the sentence with "eye safe" ytterbium should have read "eye-safe erbium."
