Chicopee, MA—To celebrate the opening of its new facility here, Prima Laser Tools invited representatives of companies from the fabricated metals industry to visit its product showroom, which features three of this company's laser cutting systems: Platino, Rapido, and Domino.

The latter, a versatile multi-axis system, can handle both 2D and 3D parts because of its gantry-mounted cutting head that also provides two axes of rotation. How this cutting head rotation benefits job shops is exemplified by the bevel cuts made by Prima customer Marks Brothers, a Portland, OR, metal cutting shop. As shown in the photo, a rotated cutting head swivels to the required bevel angle. Jon Marks, president of the job shop, says that doing bevels on the Domino eliminates the need for expensive carbide inserts for mechanical chamfering, and because of this, fewer production steps means less management is required. He points out that this also reduces physical exertion on his production people and reduces the man-hours required.

Shown on this month's cover is an action photo of a Domino cutting sheet metal. At Fabtech International this month visitors will see this unit in operation along with the Platino as Prima makes a big push into the North American metal cutting market. If you are not attending the show, check Prima out at www.prima-na.com.—DAB
