A glasses-free, truly immersive experience could soon be possible. Researchers at Zhejiang University in China have designed a 3D display that touts significantly higher image resolution and a radically vivid depth display. 

Business news roundup: Voyant Photonics, developer of on-chip frequency-modulated continuous-wave (FMCW) LiDAR systems, has announced the hiring of a new CEO, while optic and photonic component developer SCHOTT has announced a high-volume production gamechanger.

A breakthrough in optical thermodynamics is paving the way for new possibilities for photonics technologies. Researchers at the University of Southern California have developed an approach that uses the principles of thermodynamics to direct light within nonlinear systems.
