In this episode: Laser tech boosts greenhouse gas detection, a research team bridges standard and quantum internet, and funding advances photonics technologies.

In this episode of Photonics Hot List:

A new “smart” laser technology—in the form of a freeform dual-comb spectroscopy system developed by NIST—is on track to ultimately help combat climate change with its ability to detect and analyze greenhouse gases with high precision.

Physicists with the Institute of Photonics at Leibniz University Hannover in Germany are working to bridge the conventional and the future. They’ve found it’s possible to combine the conventional internet with the quantum internet in a process involving optical fiber.

In business news, laser technology developer SuperLight Photonics is joining forces with Hamamatsu Ventures to ultimately boost long-term synergy in laser innovation. Also, Purdue University is slated to receive grant funding from the U.S. National Science Foundation to facilitate improvements to the performance and efficiency of semiconductor technologies.
