In this episode of Photonics Hot List:

A team from SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory is now on track to explore atomic-scale ultrafast phenomena with unprecedented precision, thanks to some high-energy upgrades to the Linac Coherent Light Source.

Microstructured hollow-core optical fibers created by researchers at the University of Bath’s Centre for Photonics and Photonic Materials are poised to better handle the advanced data transfer requirements of quantum computing.

With a $3.5 million follow-on order in hand, LightPath Technologies is now working on advancements—specifically, germanium-free infrared optics—for the military’s F-35 combat aircraft program.
