In this episode of Photonics Hot List:

Artificial intelligence (AI) has quickly made its way into everyday life, in everything from healthcare to self-driving cars. And thanks to some new developments by researchers in Michigan, it could soon advance technologies including solar cells and smart windows.

An international team of researchers has discovered gold may have more value beyond that of jewelry or currency. It could potentially help boost technologies used in x-ray imaging to improve medical care and security procedures.

Difficult to access cancers can be quite difficult to treat, even with ever-advancing light-based technologies. But now, an implantable LED device developed by researchers at Notre Dame could change that by turning cancer cells against themselves.
