In this episode of Photonics Hot List...

For the first time in more than 50 years, NASA has ventured back to the Moon. But what’s even more exciting is the photonics technology, including lasers and sensors, that’s involved.

A new silicon photonic chip developed by a team at the University of Pennsylvania could bring AI to the next level with its ability to perform the complex mathematics needed to train and power AI systems using light.

An international group of scientists has made a major discovery in the realm of semiconductor materials: tellurite glass can actually re-form and reorganize when exposed to femtosecond laser light, paving the way for light-harvesting technologies.
