New Nicholas J. Borys, Ph.D.

Assistant Professor, Department of Physics

Dr. Nicholas J. Borys is an experimental physicist and materials scientist at Montana State University. His research group, the Borys Lab (www.boryslab.com) specializes in quantum materials and nano-optics research. Dr. Borys earned his Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Utah, and prior to his position at Montana State University, he worked as a project scientist at the Molecular Foundry at Lawrence Berkeley National Lab. His expertise is in optoelectronic phenomena in low-dimensional nanoscale materials and bulk nanostructured systems. Using advanced nano-optical and cryogenic optical characterization techniques, his research is driven by establishing structure-property relationships and discovering new phenomena in these materials at the nanoscale. Dr. Borys has extensive experience in nano-optical imaging and spectroscopy as well as low-temperature single particle optical spectroscopy techniques. At MSU, Dr. Borys is currently building a new suite of experimental capabilities designed to combines these techniques to study quantum materials.
