Jennifer Lippincott-Schwartz

Chief, Section on Organelle Biology, Cell Biology and Metabolism Branch

Jennifer Lippincott-Schwartz PhD is Section Chief of the Cell Biology and Metabolism Branch, NICHD, NIH and NIH Distinguished Investigator. Her group pioneered the use of green fluorescent protein (GFP) for quantitative analysis and modeling in live cells and embryos, providing novel insights. She has also developed and applied photoactivatable fluorescent proteins, including photoactivated localization microscopy, (PALM), a superresolution imaging technique.

Her work has been recognized with election to the National Academy of Sciences and the National Institute of Medicine, and with the Royal Microscopy Society Pearse Prize and the Society of Histochemistry Feulgen Prize. She served as President of the American Society of Cell Biology for 2014; she also serves on the scientific advisory boards of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, the Weizmann Institute of Sciences, the Searle Scholar Program, and the Salk Institute.
