The Engis 432 machine is a bench-top four-way, double-sided lapping and polishing machine, suited for short production runs in precision optical manufacturing. It has a 55 mm diameter component envelope with 18 mm maximum thickness. Featuring a manual lift-off plate, the flexible machine can lap most optics and materials, including sapphire.

Engis Shows Bench-top 4-Way Planetary Lapping/Polishing Machine at Optatec
Engis will be showing its bench-top 4-way, double-sided lapping and polishing machine, ideally suited to short production runs in precision optic manufacture, at Optatec this year.
The Engis 432 machine is very flexible, lapping most precision optics and advanced materials, including sapphire, and other optical materials, and can be operated in unmanned mode if required, while still maintaining its accuracy and repeatability.
Despite its compact size, the 432 has a generous component envelope of 55mm diameter, with 18mm maximum thickness, making it capable of producing a wide range of precision components and the small scale of the lapping surface enables the machine to lap and polish ultra-thin pieces that would be impossible on larger dual-face machines.
Easy accessibility is provided by a manual lift-off top plate, simplifying the removal of components and minimising component breakage, contamination of the working zone and the subsequent need for cleaning down or pad replacement.
