PRESS RELEASE

3S PHOTONICS, the world-leading French manufacturer of laser chips, optical discrete modules and passive components for telecommunication networks, today announces the launch of the industry's most powerful CW and pulsed 1064nm cooled laser diode modules to be used as Seed Lasers for Fiber Laser applications.

Recognized as industry-leader for submarine pump laser modules market, 3S PHOTONICS leverages its technological expertise and latest developments in the telecom area by releasing enhanced versions of its "1064 CHP Series" 1064nm laser diode modules, capable of delivering up to 500mW CW of optical power thru single-mode fiber, and intended for industrial applications:

* A CW version, with high PER values,
* A Pulsed version, stabilized with a narrow bandwidth Fiber Bragg Grating (FBG) located in the fiber pigtail.

These seed laser modules have been characterized at very high operating peak currents up to 1.7A with 1µs/500Khz pulses. The modules have proven their long-term reliability in the pulsed-mode operation. They incorporate an ultra-high power 1060nm single-mode laser diode including a thermistor and a InGaAs back-facet monitor diode.

"The introduction of our 500mW 1064 CHP Series pump laser modules is a new demonstration of our leadership in high power and high reliability GaAs laser diodes. These new modules provide more than 30% extra power compared with current offers as well as a telecom-grade reliability level." explained Yannick Bailly, Vice President of marketing and product management for 3S PHOTONICS. "We strongly believe it represents a significant step forward for our customers involved in industrial laser markets, looking for increased output powers but also for more and more reliability. At Laser World of Photonics, we will highlight the unparalleled performance of our modules, when used as seed laser modules for pulsed fiber lasers."

These new 1064 CHP modules have already proven their long-term reliability through a dedicated 4000h life-test with 1,2A injection current and up to 50°C heat sink temperature. Thermal cycling, high temperature storage and mechanical integrity tests have also been successfully passed.

Key features of the products include:

* Ultra-high output power, up to 500mW operating CW at 1000mA
* Operating wavelength: from 1050 to 1070nm
* Short pulse operation of 5ns-500ns
* Low profile hermetically sealed 14-pin butterfly package
* Internal Thermo-Electric Cooler (TEC), thermistor and back-facet monitor photodiode
* Polarization maintaining single-mode fiber (PMF) pigtail
* High PER value
* With or without narrow band Fiber Bragg Grating
* MTTF exceeding 100,000 hours
* RoHS compliant
