PRESS RELEASE
APE´s Wavelength Conversion Product Portfolio is upgraded Ultrafast lasers have become more and more relevant in the different areas of life sciences, whereby most of all the extension of the wavelength ranges is leading to a multitude of new applications. The demand is rising for compact easy-to-use and flexible devices for wavelength conversion providing easy handling also for non-laser-specialists.
To meet this demand APE offers a new product line. The new compact Chameleon OPO (Optical Parametric Oscillator) is the first completely alignment free, fully automated and computer controlled OPO, which - as specific feature - shows highest flexibility in pump- and OPO output wavelengths at the same time. This allows the use of any wavelength combinations. In conjunction with the Chameleon pump laser by Coherent it is the ideal excitation source for MPE (Multiphoton Excitation) microscopy with a wavelength range of 680…1200 nm, together with a SHG/THG module down to UV (<230 nm) without asingle gap.Significant advantages for microscopy are:
- a higher penetration depth and lower sample damage for excitation wavelengths >1 µm, - the possibility of simultaneous excitation of different fluorophores, for instance GFP (green fluorescent protein) with the laser and RFP (red fluorescent protein) with the OPO,
- multimodality of the system gaining access to alternative imaging methods like coherent Raman (CARS/SRS) and SHG/THG in addition to MPE.
For the OPO PP-Automatic the new FAN Crystal Option offers maximum flexibility in the pump- and OPO output wavelengths. This is particularly useful for 2-color applications as simultaneous MPE of different dyes, uncaging, CARS/SRS and other pump-probe-experiments. Together with the wide tuning range of the Ti:sapphire pump laser and in onjunction with a SHG/THG module it covers the outstanding wavelength range of 230 … 4000 nm. The FAN Crystal Option offers free choice of pump wavelength without any crystal or optical exchange and is remote controlled via PC. It is available for femtosecond and picosecond systems with easy conversion.
Now APE provides a femtosecond version of the Levante Emerald. Pumped by a frequency doubled Ytterbiumlaser (523 nm) this OPO offers an attractive and economic solution for generating femtosecond pulses, tunable from 680 … 2150 nm. Thereby the Levante Emerald substitutes the combination of femtosecond Ti:Sapphire laser and synchronously pumped OPO. The output pulses are nearly transform-limited. They show high beam quality and great pointing stability at the same time. The system covers a wide wavelength range in the NIR; it is easy to use and PC controllable. The OPO output pulses are inherently jitter-free (temporal fluctuations), whereby the system is particularly suitable for 2-color applications. The generated femtosecond pulses in the NIR wavelength range are of high value in the context of MPE, SHG/THG and CARS microscopy applications.
Also at Laser 2009 APE presents for the very first time the latest Harmonics generators of the HarmoniXX line and the picoEmerald, an innovative and hands-free light source for CARS/SRS microscopy. It is a fully automated single-box laser system providing with two tunable wavelengths already spatially and temporally overlapped for the
particular requirements of this microscopy application.
