August 13, 2008--Thermo Fisher Scientific (Madison, WI) received the highest overall vendor rating for infrared (IR) spectroscopy instrumentation according to the Worldwide Molecular Spectroscopy Survey published by Strategic Directions International (SDi) in July 2008. The primary factors for selection of an IR vendor include performance, service, instrument specifications, and vendor experience.
The report was compiled through end-user internet surveys covering an extended array of industries including academia, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, plastics/polymers, biotechnology, consumer products, and petrochemicals. Survey responses were collected in April and May 2008 and a total of 525 questionnaires were returned with detailed answers to the inquiries. The Thermo Fisher Scientific IR spectroscopy portfolio was clearly rated the highest among survey respondents in virtually all of the categories, with the most outstanding score being for instrument quality.
The SDi survey results stated that "more than half of the most recently purchased IR instruments were from Thermo Fisher Scientific, which is consistent with the company's leadership in the IR spectroscopy market." Mike Jost, VP & GM, molecular spectroscopy and microanalysis, Thermo Fisher Scientific, said, "Thermo Fisher is at the forefront of development and we are constantly looking at ways to improve our offerings. This is clearly demonstrated by the development of our new software capabilities, for example OMNIC Picta and Specta. These products provide the most advanced level of integration between software, spectrometer and sampling accessory of any vibrational software package on the market. These developments respond directly to market needs."
