Milpitas, CA –JDSU (NASDAQ: JDSU; and TSX: JDU) has named David Heard President of its Communications Test & Measurement Business Segment
Milpitas, CAJDSU (NASDAQ: JDSU; and TSX: JDU) has named David Heard as president of its communications test and measurement business segment. Heard brings extensive networking, wireless and international experience, according to the company.

Elaborating on his background, the company said in a statement that during a 20-year career in the communications sector, Heard has gained a depth of experience in areas key to JDSU’s growth strategy. His 10-year career with AT&T/Lucent included significant P&L responsibility, extensive international experience through expatriate assignments in Asia and Europe, and the development and management of 3G wireless solutions. As president of Tekelek/Santera Systems switching division, Heard established the company as the leading VoIP gateway supplier. Heard also served as president and CEO of Somera where he established a professional services strategy and successfully restored the company to profitable growth. At BigBand Networks, Heard managed day-to-day operations of the company, leading it to growth in the digital video market.

“David has an impressive track record of success in growing and managing a range of networking and wireless businesses,” said JDSU president and CEO, Thomas Waechter. “With his broad knowledge of the communications industry from wireless to networking equipment, operational and international experience, he is an ideal fit to lead our communications test and measurement business segment.”

JDSU’s communications test and measurement business segment serves the world’s largest communication, cable and wireless providers, networking equipment companies and enterprise customers. With fiscal year 2010 revenue of $652 million, the segment is JDSU’s largest.

“Communications networks and technologies are rapidly converging, creating new complexities and a growing need for test solutions and expertise to ensure quality and reliability,” said Heard. “JDSU is clearly positioned with the right people and innovative set of solutions to help its customers address these challenges. I look forward to working with the team to build on JDSU’s global leadership position in the growing test market.”

Heard succeeds Dave Holly, who in late August was named to lead the company’s emerging markets business.

Heard earned an M.S. degree in management from Stanford University, an MBA degree from the University of Dayton, Ohio, and a bachelor of science and bachelor of arts degree from The Ohio State University. Heard serves as a guest lecturer at Ohio State’s Fisher School of Business. He was recently awarded the school’s Alumni Award for Entrepreneurship, recognizing his role as co-founder of Zyvex Performance Materials, a nano-technology company.
