Manlight has announced the release of its new mini laser transmitter for lidar, telemetry and rangefinding applications. The compact ML1550-PL-R-OEM, measuring 90 × 70 × 15 mm, is a pulsed fiber laser providing short to ultrashort pulse durations, adjustable from 2 to 50 ns, through a near diffraction limited randomly polarized beam with M² beam quality of <1.1. The air-cooled device features energy of up to 10 µJ, maintenance-free operation and a safety interlock.

Proprietary and patented “injection technology” enables the use of reliable broad-area laser diode pumps. The all-fiber design ensures robustness, without any optical parts to align or stabilize. Integration of the OEM system requires no after-installation service. Output power tunability is from 1 to 100%, typical output fiber length is 50 cm, operating temperature is from 0 to 50 °C, operating voltage is 5 VDC, and control mode is continuous operation or burst. Typical seed laser wavelength is 1550 nm. Other applications include target identification, mapping, 3-D and topography scanning, and weather and pollutant detection.
