Stavanger, Norway--Oil company Statoil ASA has entered into a business partnership with QuantaRed Technologies, in which Statoil has decided to purchase its first quantum cascade laser (QCL)-based instrument for water quality monitoring. Developed by QuantaRed in cooperation with Eralytics in the last five years, the ERACHECK chemical analyzer delivers a CFC-free, fast, and low-cost measuring technique.

The ERACHECK chemical analyzer quantifies hydrocarbons in wastewater from oil platforms, allowing CFC-free measurement of hydrocarbon concentration directly on the oil platform and avoiding long, costly transport distances for analysis on land. Driven by QCLs—miniaturized, mid-IR light sources that operate at room temperature and easily integrate into compact devices—the analyzer enables spectral analysis of hydrocarbons in the mid-IR range.
