Mountain View, CA--Mobius Photonics, a producer of short-pulsed fiber-laser sources (IR, green, and UV), has promoted Kiyomi Monro from VP of business management to chief executive officer (CEO).

"The Board moved to appoint Kiyomi Monro as CEO of Mobius Photonics in recognition of his commitment to the success of Mobius Photonics in the development of fiber-based laser systems to serve the growing market for laser processing of semiconductor and electronic materials," said Robert L. Byer, chairman of the Mobius Photonics Board of Directors. "Mr. Monro has demonstrated his ability to lead the company into new markets and at the same time to serve existing markets with high quality products that are recognized for their performance and reliability."

Monro has over 20 years of experience in international sales, marketing, and finance. He has spent more than 14 of those years in the photonics industry. Prior to joining Mobius, Monro held positions that included director of sales, marketing and business development for IMRA America and senior product marketing manager for Coherent. He was also key account manager for Disco Corporation and international sales manager for Universal Laser. Monro founded and was president of Stuart & Lotus International and Messy Industries. He holds a master's degree in economics from Boston University.

Monro became Mobius' CEO on December 1, 2010. He follows laser business pioneer Robert "Bob" Mortensen in the position. Robert Byer said, "The Board of Directors of Mobius Photonics extends its gratitude to Robert Mortensen for stepping in as CEO and serving the best interests of the company for the past 16 months. Bob's business acumen and experience has helped Mobius Photonics gain momentum and move forward to serve its customers."
