ONCHAN, ISLE OF MAN-CVI Technical Optics has completed a number of key activities that will further boost its presence as a major supplier of optics components and integrated opto-mechanical assemblies. In addition to expanding its distribution agreement with BFi OPTiLAS to include the United Kingdom, CVI announced the appointment of Gary Thomas to the position of business development manager for Large Optics, along with the completion of the integration of Quality Laser Optics (QLO), which CVI acquired in April this year.

The original distribution agreement with BFi OPTiLAS was established in June 2005 to include Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Luxembourg, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the Netherlands. Headquartered in Albuquerque, New Mexico, CVI operates manufacturing facilities in New Mexico, California, the British Isles, and South Korea with sales representatives and distributors located worldwide-and now including the United Kingdom.

Through the acquisition of QLO, CVI has the capability to polish optics up to 1 meter in diameter with a surface figure of lambda/10 over any 12” diameter (subject to material type, thickness of optic, and shape of optic). CVI uses a 12” Zygo interferometer to certify this performance.

The QLO business, all people, and the equipment in Ballasalla were re-located into CVI’s facility in Onchan within 12 weeks.
