SIFAM ships one million fused fiber components

May 1, 2007
TORQUAY, ENGLAND-SIFAM Fibre Optics is shipping its millionth fused optical fiber component.

TORQUAY, ENGLAND-SIFAM Fibre Optics is shipping its millionth fused optical fiber component. The one-millionth device will be supplied for integration in a high-power fiber laser, and its shipment will coincide with the June Laser 2007 exhibition in Munich.

SIFAM manufactured its first fiber splitter over two decades ago, and since then have developed a heating and fusing process to produce a range of low-loss fiber components. The company claims that product reliability in the field is substantially less than 1 FIT (failure-in-time). SIFAM’s components are found throughout terrestrial and submarine telecommunications networks. More recent developments include red, green, and blue visible wavelength combiners for use in laser projection displays and biomedical instruments.
