Technolas develops two laser procedure innovations for cataract surgery, presbyopia treatment

Dec. 6, 2010
Technolas Perfect Vision GmbH developed the Customlens femtosecond laser procedure for performing the key steps in the cataract surgery procedure recently, as well as the the Supracor excimer laser for its existing 217P excimer workstation to treat presbyopia.

Technolas Perfect Vision GmbH (TPV; Munich, Germany) developed the Customlens femtosecond laser procedure for performing the key steps in the cataract surgery procedure recently. Customlens is the latest procedure module to become available on the Technolas femtosecond workstation, reportedly making it the first femtosecond laser for performing cataract and refractive surgery with one device. The device performs the Intracor presbyopia treatment, Customflap LASIK flaps and Customshape therapeutic indications as well.

TPV has also developed the Supracor excimer laser for its existing 217P excimer workstation to treat presbyopia. The laser features an aberration-optimized presbyopic algorithm designed for application to myopic, hyperopic and emmetropic eyes, as well as post-LASIK cases.

Customlens will be commercially available in 2011, while Supracor is expected to receive the CE mark in the first half of 2011.
