Trimedyne wins new U.S. patent on fiber lasers for BPH treatment, back and neck surgery

Feb. 20, 2009
FEBRUARY 20, 2009--Trimedyne's (Lake Forest, CA) new U.S. patent covers an improvement that increases tissue vaporization and durability of its side firing laser fibers. The advance enables Trimedyne's new DuraMAX laser, which will be marketed--by Boston Scientific (Natick, MA) in the U.S. and Japan, and Lumenis (Yokneam, Israel) in the rest of the world--for use with holmium lasers to treat BPH (enlarged prostate) and herniated or ruptured discs in the spine (lumbar, thoracic or cervical).

FEBRUARY 20, 2009--The U.S. Patent Office has issued surgical laser manufacturer Trimedyne Inc. (Lake Forest, CA) a patent covering an improvement in side firing laser fibers that increases the fiber's tissue vaporization rate and durability. The invention is one of several advances Trimedyne has incorporated into its new DuraMAX Side Firing Fiber. This laser will be marketed by Boston Scientific (Natick, MA) in the U.S. and Japan, and by Lumenis (Yokneam, Israel), one of the world's largest manufacturers of medical lasers, throughout the rest of the world.
