Customizable butterfly laser diodes from Modulight

May 20, 2009
Modulight's (Tampere, Finland and San Jose, CA) customizable butterfly laser diode series covers a range of standard wavelengths--and supports all custom laser wavelengths offered by Modulight (630 to 1650 nm). They are based on Modulight's single-emitter laser diodes, from which laser emission is coupled to single output fiber with high efficiency. They feature high brightness, power and efficiency, and their small footprint enables many integration options.

The units can be customized for special pin arrangements and equipped with simple output connector on a PCB. A thermoelectrically cooled version is available. The multimode output fibers have core diameter of 105 microns and 200 microns with 0.22 NA, and can be provided with specified connectors (FC/ST/SMA-905 is standard). Modulight offers integration service and design to accommodate any application.

Modulight celebrates spring by releasing a series of colourful Butterfly lasers

Tampere, Finland & San Jose, CA, May 13th 2009 - Modulight spreads out again the package selection of its renowned laser diode products by releasing the 14-pin butterfly series. This series covers a range of standard wavelengths, but supports all custom laser wavelengths offered by Modulight (from 630 nm to 1650 nm). The released wavelengths found their way to applications in medical, industrial, defense and research activities already from 2008. The butterfly products are based on Modulight's acclaimed single-emitter laser diodes, from which the laser emission is coupled to single output fiber with a very high efficiency.

The butterfly modules can embed most of the Modulight's high-power multimode single emitter products, offering broad wavelength and power level coverage. Currently, following wavelengths and power levels are offered as standard products:

+ 635 nm 350 mW, product code ML1862
+ 680 nm 750 mW, product code ML1523
+ 808 nm 2000 mW, product code ML1859
+ 940 nm 3000 mW, product code ML1864
+ 1350 nm 700 mW, product code ML1855
+ 1550 nm 700 mW, product code ML1856

The features of the butterfly modules include high brightness, power and efficiency. The most significant benefit is the small footprint and many integrating options. The butterfly modules can be customized to accommodate special pin arrangements per request, and can be optionally equipped with simple output connector on a PCB. The butterfly laser module is offered as a thermoelectrically cooled version with an integrated photodiode and a thermistor. The standard multimode output fibers have core diameter of 105 microns and 200 microns with 0.22 NA, and they can be provided also with customer specific connector types (standard connector type is FC/ST/SMA-905). Modulight offers integration service for the butterfly modules up to the system level, including driver electronics, PCB and mechanical design to accommodate to any OEM application.
