The VoiceCoil microscope z-drive by TILL Photonics for use in the company's iMIC digital microscope offers 20 nm pattern placement accuracy at full range for 3-D scans. A 10 ms settling time for a 2 μm step allows z-stacks that are only limited by camera speed. A closed loop-feedback ensures nanometer-precision position control of the microscope objective.

PRESS RELEASE

TILL Photonics Will Introduce “VoiceCoil,” the Fastest Microscope z-drive in the Industry

TILL Photonics will introduce its new VoiceCoil next week at the annual meeting of the Society for Neuroscience in Washington, D.C. This microscope z-drive combines the range of a stepper motor-driven coarse drive (22mm) with piezo precision at exceptional speed. The VoiceCoil offers 20nm pp accuracy at full range, enabling 3-D scans of unprecedented quality. A 10ms settling time for a 2μm step allows z-stacks that are only limited by camera speed.

TILL’s VoiceCoil z-drive works like a dynamic loudspeaker, where the coil moves the membrane of the speaker. Simply speaking, the microscope objective in the VoiceCoil replaces the membrane and a very precise optical position measurement system with a closed loop feedback ensures nm precise position control of the objective. The VoiceCoil z-drive will be used in TILL’s digital microscope, the iMIC.
