The Osram Ostar Medical tunable light-emitting diode (LED) from Osram Opto Semiconductors (Sunnyvale, CA) is comprised of four different LED chips in warm white, ultra white, green, and amber, and delivers a high color-rendering index (CRI) of 95. The shade of white emitted by the LED can be set according to individual requirements within a color temperature range of between 3700 and 5000 K. When optimized for the red spectrum (Ra9), the CRI remains at around 95 to yield true red for lighting systems in medical operating rooms.
