The Opera-F optical parametric amplifier (OPA) from Coherent (Santa Clara, CA) delivers sub-100 fs pulse duration when pumped by the company's Monaco ytterbium ultrafast amplifier, and has uses in advanced multiphoton microscopy studies in neuroscience, among other applications. Its signal output is tunable from 650 to 900 nm, and the idler is tunable from 1200 to 2500 nm. When pumped by the Monaco at 40 W, the OPA provides power up to 3 W and pulse energy up to 3 µJ, as well as 1 MHz maximum pulse repetition rate. A noncollinear stage generates pulsewidths as short as 50 fs, followed by a collinear stage that delivers broad wavelength tuning. Output wavelength is tuned through software, without requiring physical adjustment.
