The EL-16-40-TC electrically tunable lens features a 16 mm clear aperture for 2.5x more light throughput.

The EL-16-40-TC electrically tunable lens from Optotune (Dietikon, Switzerland) features a 16 mm clear aperture for 2.5x more light throughput than its predecessor. The lens can be shaped from a flat zero-state into a plano-concave or plano-convex lens, resulting in a focal tuning range of up to -10 to 10 dpt (at -250 to 250 mA). Its design minimizes thermal drift effects to as little as 0.02 dpt/°C—with its built-in temperature sensor, overall reproducibility of typically ±0.05 dpt is possible. Response and settling times are 5 and 25 ms, respectively. Applications for the lens include refraction correction in ophthalmic devices and microscopy, among others.
