September 8, 2008--Nufern (East Granby, CT), manufacturer of active fibers, fiber lasers, and amplifiers, will introduce its NuQ industrial pulsed-fiber marking laser at the International Manufacturing Technology Show (IMTS) in Chicago this week.
The NuQ laser is a 20 W average power, Q-switched fiber laser based on Nufern's optimized ytterbium-doped fiber. It features a fast turn-on time of 125 µs to maximize production throughput, and delivers high peak power from an industry standard OEM footprint. Nufern believes the NuQ laser "will offer new and existing pulsed fiber laser customers, both OEM and job shops, an alternative credible supplier in the market with a proven track record of delivering fiber laser technology," says Bryce Samson, vice president of business development.
Featuring a Gaussian pulse shape and single-mode beam quality, the 20 W NuQ laser delivers 1 mJ (10 kW peak power) pulses with more marking power per output watt than other lasers in its class. The laser offers a widely adjustable operating range of output power and pulse repetition rate, making it adaptable to a variety of marking, etching, engraving, and trimming applications. It emits zero bleed-through power when gated off to eliminate ghost lines between marks, even on sensitive materials.
The rugged, air cooled, monolithic architecture is pumped by reliable single-emitter-diode technology for extremely long life expectancy with no maintenance requirements. The laser comes complete with an armored fiber delivery cable and precision optical isolator as standard. It is powered by a simple 24 V universal power supply through an industry standard 24-pin interface, for simple drop-in replacement of existing systems.
