Vaduz, Liechtenstein, September 4, 2003. EXALOS AG, a privately-held company was founded in June to develop, manufacture and sell Superluminescent Light Emitting Diodes (SLED) and other optoelectronic devices to the fiberoptic gyroscope, medical, test equipment and sensor industries. The company has its headquarters in Vaduz, Liechtenstein and offices in the Technopark, Zurich, Switzerland.
EXALOS has assembled a team with extensive hands-on experience involved in all optoelectronic device processes from design through packaging. The team was successfully driving the SLED product line at OptoSpeed over several years. Its strengths cover the expertise required in product development, customer interactions, sales and marketing, supply chain management and qualification of products. The team has an in depth knowledge of the customer's applications and can work with them to help reach optimal solutions within their markets.
EXALOS strategy is to design, develop and sell optoelectronic devices in a significantly cost effective and time efficient way. The sharp economic downturn since 2000 in the technology sector and most especially in telecommunications affected all companies with an exposure to high operating costs and products focused only on specific markets.
The EXALOS business concept is designed to avoid these pitfalls by minimizing financial outgoings through outsourcing with products applicable to a very wide range of markets. EXALOS has established strategic alliances with technological- and cost leadership partners, with the goal to provide customers with the optimum balance of price, time to market, performance, and size for any given specification. This approach gives EXALOS the flexibility to develop devices as solutions tailored for particular customers and markets. EXALOS will exclusively focus on its core competencies: design, test and qualification of devices, supply management, customer relationship and support.
EXALOS SLED products are semiconductor optical devices emitting a stable, broad wavelength output enabling a wide variety of applications in the gyroscope, medical, test equipment and sensor industries. EXALOS offers mainly three product lines differing in the emission wavelength, i.e. 830nm, 1300nm and 1550 nm. These products are addressing specific and known customer requirements.
EXALOS envisions several additional product lines for future development intended to be strongly application oriented and offering higher functionality. The basic concept is to integrate functionality at the module level and to offer easy to apply products.
EXALOS SLEDs currently target specific applications in four major markets:
* Fiberoptic gyroscopes for applications such as avionics, aerospace and navigation
* Optical coherence tomography for medical applications such as cornea and retina diagnostics
* Optical channel monitors, chromatic and polarization mode dispersion, and passive components characterization in test equipment
* Strain fiberoptic sensors for civil structure monitoring such as bridges and oil pipelines
