Kista, Sweden, January 27, 2003. Northlight Optronics has acquired the opto electronic component business unit of Ericsson. This unit has more than 20 years experience in the design development and manufacture of telecommunication fiberoptic components. Northlight Optronics will build on Ericsson's 20-year plus track record of proven manufacturing and design capability of long wavelength optical transmitters and receivers.
The initial product range includes DFB-EA and DFB laser transmitters, and high speed receivers up to 10 Gbit/s. Northlight Optronics designs and manufactures optical transmitters and receivers operating up to 10 GBit/s for long haul, metro and high speed LAN applications fully qualified 10 GBit components for up to 80 km reach are already shipping.
Substantial equity financing has been committed to the company from CapMan/Swedestart-funds managed and advised by CapMan, European Digital Partners (EDP) and the founders. Ericsson has taken a minority stake in the company.
Northlight Optronics AB founding team comprises Keith Halsey, senior Opto Adviser at EDP, previously founder & CEO of Lyte Optronics (sold to AXT Inc) and Demeter Inc (sold to Finisar Inc), Robert Green, previously VP Business Development of Bookham Technology plc, David Darby, previously CTO of Lyte Optronics Inc and Tom Mellkvist, previously CFO of ADC in Sweden (formerly Altitun AB).
