PerkinElmer launches fiber optic illumination system
January 12, 2005, Fremont, CA--PerkinElmer Optoelectronics has announced a new high-intensity xenon fiber optic illumination system that can be customized for a variety of medical OEM applications requiring bright, accurate color illumination, such as endoscopy and surgical headlamps. The XL3000 fiber optic illuminator makes use of PerkinElmer's xenon lighting technology to offers true bright, white light in an easy-to-integrate system that complies with the latest international regulatory standards.
The broad band xenon spectrum provides a "tunable" source for narrow band illumination applications such as fluorescence microscopy. It also provides a balanced D6500 / D5900 color spectrum and superior color at a consistent 6000 K color temperature in comparison to mercury-based or halogen bulbs, which may yield color temperatures of 8000 K or 3200 K respectively with limited color quality.
The system is twice as bright as conventional 300-watt xenon-based systems, and the shell is easily-modified to integrate seamlessly with OEM instruments, without the need for additional design work. A significant upgrade to PerkinElmer's XL2000 light source, the XL3000 provides numerous new features and benefits to improve usability and performance. It also complies with the latest international regulatory standards to ensure safety and electromagnetic compatibility, giving OEMs a turnkey solution to address global markets without additional design considerations.
